Gianni Pavan works at the University of Pavia (Italy) where he runs the Interdisciplinary Center for Bioacoustics and Environmental Research (CIBRA) and teaches Bioacoustics, Ecology, and Applied Ecology at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (since 2006). Formerly Professor of Ecology at the IUAV University of Venice (1994-2005) and co-founder of the CIBRA (1989). Since the beginning, his interest focused on computational bioacoustics, with the development and application of digital signal processing techniques for the analysis of animal and environmental sounds, ranging from infrasound and ultrasounds. Involved in both terrestrial and marine bioacoustics and ecoacoustics, he also runs the Online Database of the Italian Strandings Network. Associate Researcher at INFN-LNS Catania 2003-2019, he cooperated with INGV and INFN to develop multidisciplinary underwater acoustic sensing systems and participated to the NEMO-ONDE project to study cetacean sounds detected by underwater sensors. Cooperates with ACCOBAMS and is member of the ACCOBAMS working group on noise.
