Dr. Porter has been doing work in ocean acoustics for over 30 years and co-authored the standard text on Computational Ocean Acoustics. He held positions as a scientist at the Naval Ocean Systems Center, San Diego; a research physicist at the Naval Research Laboratory in D.C.; a senior scientist at the SACLANT Undersea Research Centre, Italy, a professor of Mathematics at the New Jersey Institute of Technology; an assistant vice president and chief scientist at Science Applications International, and — currently --- the President and CEO at Heat, Light, and Sound Research in San Diego. His work has been recognized with the A.B. Wood Medal (Institute of Acoustics); the Innovators Award (Naval Research Laboratory); Rabbi Award (SAIC) the the Pioneers Medal of the Acoustical Society of America.
